How Long Does a Solar Bug Zapper Charge Last? A Simple FAQ

One of the most common questions about solar bug zappers is simple: how long does it actually run once the sun goes down? Here's a straightforward look at how the Murutoi G8 and G8L are built to deliver all-night protection.

The Battery Behind It

The G8 runs on two 18650 li-ion cells (7500mAh each), while the G8L steps up to three cells (9600mAh each). Both are charged during the day and store that energy to power the unit through the night in Auto Mode, or continuously in Manual Mode. Murutoi markets both models for all-night mosquito protection, drawing on this stored charge rather than needing a plug-in top-up.

Why a Full Charge Matters

Because the unit relies entirely on the battery once the sun sets, getting a full charge during the day directly affects how reliably it runs through the night. A partially shaded panel or a cloudy stretch of days can mean less stored energy — which is where a couple of built-in features help.

The Adjustable Panel Angle

Both the G8 and G8L have a solar panel that tilts, letting you angle it toward the sun rather than leaving it flat. Adjusting the tilt to more directly face the sun — especially as the sun's position shifts through the seasons — helps the panel capture more direct light during the hours it's charging, rather than catching light at a steep, less efficient angle.

If You're Not Getting a Full Night's Run

A few things are usually worth checking first:

  • Is the panel getting at least 6 hours of unobstructed direct sun? (See our placement guide for more on finding a good spot.)
  • Is the panel angled toward the sun, or sitting flat?
  • Is the panel itself clean, or coated in dust or pollen that's blocking light?

Bottom Line

Your Murutoi zapper is designed to run through the night on a day's worth of solar charging, and a well-angled, well-placed, clean panel is the biggest factor in getting a full, reliable charge.
